Large transverse dunes along the west flank of the Sangre de Cristo Range. Late summer rain triggered extensive growth of Prairie Sunflowers (Helianthus petiolaris) on the sand sheet bordering the main dune field. The largest of the dunes seen here is about 750 ft. high.
